MLU – Mobile Lubrication Unit

For the aerospace industry

Portable minimum quantity lubrication system with magnetic attachment and automatic control.
Ideal for automated drilling units (ADU) and aviation sandwich materials.

Product description & technical details

The MLU system was developed specifically for the aerospace industry and can be connected to all common drill feed units (ADU). Thanks to the automatic control, the MMS process (minimum quantity lubrication) can be switched on or off depending on material requirements - perfect, for example, when passing through CFRP layers so that the drilling site remains dry.

  • Dosage: 5–100 ml/h (precisely adjustable)
  • Power supply: 12 V (battery operation optionally possible)
  • Compressed air supply: 5-8 bar
  • Flexible control: Lubrication cycles can be activated manually, electrically or pneumatically
  • Especially for aircraft construction: Magnetic holder for mounting on ferromagnetic surfaces
  • Scope of delivery: Incl. 5 m flexible hose for a large working radius
  • Perfect lubrication for sandwich materials (e.g. titanium, CFRP, aluminum) with different layers

Thanks to the flexible control, the MLU automatically adapts to changing material requirements and thus enables optimal drilling and efficient lubrication - ideal for the demanding processes in modern aircraft construction.

MLU – the mobile minimum quantity lubrication unit

The MLU (Mobile Lubrication Unit) is a portable minimum quantity lubrication system for machining. It brings tiny, precisely metered quantities of lubricant directly to the tool or working point, replacing large volumes of cutting fluid with a clean, low-consumption air-oil supply. Thanks to its magnetic mount and automatic control, the unit can be deployed flexibly and quickly wherever it is needed — for example on automatic drilling units — without a fixed installation. The MLU is part of DropsA's minimum quantity lubrication range for near-dry machining.

How it works

The MLU works on the minimum quantity lubrication principle: a small amount of cutting oil is combined with compressed air to form a finely metered air-oil flow that is carried to the tool. The automatic control triggers the lubrication in step with the machining. Because only a minimal quantity of oil is applied, the workpiece, chips and machine stay largely dry and coolant costs fall.

Selection

The MLU is self-contained and needs only a compressed-air supply. Where a built-in, multi-point or through-spindle solution is needed instead, units such as VIP4Tools or the H1 spindle system are the alternatives, and for a hand-held option Grip is the counterpart.

Frequently asked questions about the MLU

What is the MLU used for?
It is a portable minimum quantity lubrication unit that brings small, precisely metered quantities of lubricant directly to the tool, replacing large volumes of cutting fluid.
How is it controlled?
Automatically, in step with the machining, so the tool receives a continuous, demand-led air-oil supply during the cut.
How is the MLU mounted?
By a magnetic mount, so it can be attached and moved quickly — for example onto automatic drilling units.
What are the benefits over flood coolant?
By applying only a minimal oil quantity at the working point, it keeps the workpiece, chips and machine largely dry and cuts coolant, disposal and cleaning costs.
When is a different MQL solution better?
When a built-in, multi-point or through-spindle solution is needed — then VIP4Tools or the H1 spindle system may suit better; for a hand-held option, Grip is the counterpart.
