PRINCIPLE

How a progressive distributor works

Progressive distributors meter the lubricant volumetrically and deliver it positively, one point after another — that is, progressively — to the individual lubrication points. The pistons in the distributor work in a fixed sequence: only when one piston has completed its stroke does it release the next. As a result, every lubrication point receives an exactly defined quantity of lubricant per cycle. This positive sequence makes the system easy to monitor: if a point or a line is blocked, the whole distributor stops — and a connected piston or cycle sensor registers it immediately. Progressive distribution is one of the most widely used metering methods, and it sits at the heart of DropsA's distribution range. Progressive distributors are built modularly, with interchangeable dosing elements, so the delivery to each outlet can be set and changed by swapping elements rather than replacing the block. The range covers the nPR+, NPZ and nP nano-Progressive series and the SMX/SMO families, in sizes from SMO (Mini) to SMX (Standard) — and in stainless steel (INOX) for corrosive or hygienic environments. This breadth means a progressive system can be tailored from a handful of points on a small machine to large, demanding installations with many outlets, for both oil and grease. Volumetric, positively sequenced metering to each point Self-monitoring: a blockage stops the cycle and is detected at once Modular, with interchangeable dosing elements Series from nP nano and SMO (Mini) to SMX (Standard); INOX available For oil and grease, from small machines to large installations

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about progressive distributors

How does a progressive distributor work?
It meters the lubricant volumetrically and delivers it positively in a fixed sequence — each piston releases the next only after completing its stroke, so every point receives an exactly defined quantity per cycle.
Why is a progressive system self-monitoring?
Because the pistons work in sequence, a blockage at any point stops the whole distributor — and a connected piston or cycle sensor detects it immediately.
Can the delivery per point be changed?
Yes. The distributor is modular with interchangeable dosing elements, so the volume to each outlet can be set by swapping elements.
Which series and sizes are available?
The nPR+, NPZ and nP nano-Progressive series and the SMX/SMO families, in sizes from SMO (Mini) to SMX (Standard), with stainless-steel (INOX) versions.
Which media can be used?
Both oil and grease, from small machines to large installations with many outlets.
